Heart & Brain Underwater

Cebu 12-13 Dec 08

This was my 3rd time at Cebu & I finally dedicated some time to get aquainted with the city by shopping. Embarrassed We didn’t even have enough time to visit the tourist attractions! When we reached our budget accomodation – Westpoint Inn Cebu after the 4hrs bus ride from Maya, we were totally exhausted, laid in bed & snoozed, until hunger woke us up. Then we walked past the busy Circle, to the Robinsons shopping centre & found a nice Persian/ Indian restaurant – think it was called Persian Palace – it was in the basement to cure our hungry stomachs. Their yogurt drink was WOW – my order was carrot yogurt, I still get the craving when I think of it! & the food was wonderful & inexpensive – we ordered a pizza & a rice & a chicken roll. Spent the rest of the evening looking at the accessories made of genuine freshwater pearls…
Next morning, we went to Carbon Market – the taxi driver even told us to be careful with our bags there… We found everyone quite nice at the market – we had a fresh coconut drink & a lady stall-owner even helped split the coconut & made us spoons from the shell, so that we could enjoy some soft yummy coconut. It was an eye opening 3 hrs experience – there were preachings, ktv machines/stalls, cooked food stalls, vegetables stalls, fruits stalls, fish stalls, poultry stalls, meat stalls (which we didn’t get close too -the smell kept us well away), souvenirs stalls, clothes stalls, shoes/slippers stalls etc etc… We bought 2kg of fresh mangoes for the folks at home but they were not very sweet… After the local experience, we went to SM Mall! The biggest shopping centre at Cebu. I was pretty surprised that I had to be “frisked” by the security before entering the mall – guns were allowed in Philippines. Oh, the food at the food court was quite good! Terence had a nice time picking up some cheap Transformers t-shirts.
Then we rushed back to the Circle for 1hr of relaxing massage at the Banyan Spa (sorry, not a part of the Banyan Tree group). According to Robin & Meng Wei, the Thai massage was better tho… After rushing to the airport & checking in, we then found out that the plane was late. Oh well, I had no more complaints after being able to secure 3 seats to myself on the half empty flight, stretched out & slept soundly for most part of the 3.5hrs flight. That was 1 of the very few perks of being short – just need 3 economy seats! Wink Were quite glad we came back on the Saturday flight…
